Do Souls-Like Games Are Actually Tough?

"Mortal Shell"

When it comes to “soul-like” or “souls” games, most gamers assume that they are incredibly challenging. However, let’s explore whether this perception holds true.

I’ve been playing Souls or Souls-like games for nearly two decades, and my experience has led me to a different conclusion. These games aren’t inherently difficult; rather, they demand patience. Here’s why:

Slow Parry Timing and Dodging Mechanics:

Most Souls-like games feature deliberate combat mechanics. Parrying and dodging require precise timing, and characters move slowly during these actions.

The deliberate pace can frustrate players who prefer fast-paced combat. But it’s not about difficulty; it’s about mastering the timing.

Patience Is Key:

Rushing through these games is a recipe for disaster. Enemies punish impatience swiftly.

To succeed, players must exercise restraint, observe enemy patterns, and time their actions carefully.

In summary, Souls-like games aren’t inherently tough, they’re games of patience. The challenge lies in mastering deliberate mechanics rather than facing insurmountable difficulty.
