I recently had the chance to play Underworld Gang Wars (UGW), an upcoming Indian battle royale game set on the fictional island of Dhantara. The game features two rival teams: the Bhokal Toli and the Velvets. While the gameplay is reminiscent of titles like BGMI and other similar battle royale games, after a few hours of playing the open beta, I have some thoughts to share.
First and foremost, I believe this game is not yet ready for launch. I understand that it is not the final product, but if the UGW team plans to release it in its current state, it may face criticism similar to, if not worse than, what Indus Battle Royale encountered.
The movement in UGW feels very unpolished and awkward. The gunplay is mediocre, and the game is plagued with numerous bugs, sometimes the weapon trigger doesn’t work, you can’t pick up weapons, and there are graphical glitches. Most concerning is the performance. Even on a flagship device like the Galaxy S23, the game runs poorly. During one match, my device started to overheat significantly, more so than with other demanding games like Warzone Mobile.
While running a game on maximum settings can cause issues, UGW is not visually stunning enough to justify such poor performance. It is simply poorly optimized. The developers need to address these issues, particularly performance and movement, before the official release. The game movement felt inconsistent and laggy, unlike other polished games in the genre.
In summary, developers must address all these issues before launching the game to avoid turning it into a disaster.
