The Last of Us Part II Changed How I Experience Video Games

I’d heard countless people talk about The Last of Us series and its powerful storytelling, but until recently, I hadn’t truly experienced it for myself. Having already played Part I and familiarized myself with the lore, I finally decided it was time to experience Part II.

Today, I finished the game and I’m ready to share my thoughts. Honestly, I have never been so captivated by a video game’s narrative before. The Last of Us Part II is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Dual Perspectives

What struck me most was the way the game lets you embody both sides of the conflict. Playing as Ellie and Abby gave me a rare chance to see the story unfold from two perspectives, hero and villain, depending on how you look at it.

That mechanic alone elevated the experience. I found myself waiting eagerly for the inevitable confrontation between Abby and Ellie after the early events. The tension was cinematic, the suspense movie‑like. And when those moments finally arrived, they hit harder because I had walked in both characters’ shoes.

Emotional Depth and Storytelling

Few games manage to balance emotional weight with gameplay the way The Last of Us Part II does. The writing is sharp, the characters layered, and the pacing keeps you hooked. It’s not just a game, it feels like living through a drama series where every decision carries weight.

Experiencing both sides of the story made me reflect on morality in games. It’s rare to play as both protagonist and antagonist, and rarer still for a game to handle it with such nuance.

We Need More Games Like This

Without spoiling too much, I will say this, we need more titles that dare to explore emotional depth and moral complexity. Games that don’t shy away from showing both sides of a conflict whether good or bad, leave a lasting impact.

Sure, there are elements some players debate or dislike, but beyond that, the narrative is unforgettable. It’s the kind of story that stays with you long after the credits roll.

The Last of Us Part II isn’t just a game it’s an experience. It challenges you, moves you, and makes you question perspectives. For me, it set a new benchmark in storytelling, and I’ll never forget the journey it took me on.
