Game Updates - The Third Edition
If you remember, about a year and a half ago we started a series called Game Updates. In this series, we usually talk about games that haven’t been officially announced yet or about which we have very little information. This article marks the third edition of the series, where we’ll discuss RDR3, GTA4 Remaster, Splinter Cell Remake, Cyberpunk 2, and Mass Effect 5.
So, if you’re interested in these topics, make sure to read till the end — don’t miss a single part. Let’s dive in.
Red Dead Redemption III
We all know Rockstar Games keeps its projects extremely secret. The same is true for RDR3. Even though Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed its development, reports and leaks suggest that RDR3 has entered its initial development phase.
With GTA6 nearing release, Rockstar’s focus will naturally shift to RDR3, since after GTA, the Red Dead Redemption franchise is their most valuable property.
Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, mentioned in an interview that they can now make games faster without compromising quality, thanks to new technology. Considering this, I estimate RDR3 could release around 2030–2031.
Grand Theft Auto IV Remaster
There’s no official news about a GTA4 Remaster, but here’s my opinion, GTA4’s PC port was broken, unoptimized, and buggy. Remastering it would be difficult it would practically need to be rebuilt.
Rockstar has already enhanced RDR, GTA Trilogy, and GTA5. That leaves RDR2 and GTA4. Since RDR2 already looks gorgeous, GTA4 is the logical next candidate.
Its physics are still advanced, but performance issues and lack of next-gen availability make a remaster or remake obvious. I expect it to launch after GTA6 but before RDR3, possibly around late 2028 or early 2029.
Cyberpunk 2: Project Orion
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is officially confirmed and in development under the codename Project Orion. Around 163 developers are working on it, led by CDPR North America. The goal is to make the city and vibe feel authentically American.
If Witcher 4 releases on time in 2027, Cyberpunk 2 could arrive by 2029–2030. But if Witcher 4 is delayed (which is likely), expect Cyberpunk 2 around 2031–2032. My gut feeling says 2031.
Splinter Cell Remake
Ubisoft has confirmed the Splinter Cell Remake, developed by Ubisoft Toronto using the Snowdrop Engine (the same engine powering Star Wars Outlaws). The gameplay will remain linear, just like the original, with no open world.
Originally planned for late 2026, recent layoffs of over 40 developers at Ubisoft Toronto suggest delays. Realistically, expect it around late 2027 or early 2028.
Mass Effect 5
I’m a huge fan of the Mass Effect series, having played all the games. Mass Effect 5 was officially confirmed back in 2020, with BioWare actively working on it. It will be a single-player game connected to Mass Effect Andromeda, featuring returning characters like Liara.
However, layoffs in early 2025 have likely delayed development. While it was expected in 2027, I don’t think we’ll see it before 2028–2029. Honestly, the lack of updates since its 2020 announcement makes me feel the developers aren’t taking it seriously.
Final Thoughts
These were the major games we discussed in this edition of Game Updates. What do you think about their release timelines? Do you believe RDR3 will arrive by 2030, or will Cyberpunk 2 slip into 2032?
